SCHOOL KITS FOR CHILDREN STUDENTS LIVING WITH ALBINISM
There is a huge gap in equality between children with albinism and other school children in the classroom due to lack of sufficient sensitization and awareness needed to guide teachers and education institutions about the extra care, attention and learning materials children with albinism need.
The widespread belief that children with albinism are also mentally retarded prompts many families not to send them to school. Equal opportunity in the field of education, thus, would bring not only greater professional and social possibilities for these young people, but would also guarantee them awareness of the causes of their own handicap and even of simple devices that could lower the risk of illness and death.
BAF has devised a school kit with essential materials vital to cater to the needs of in school children with albinism throughout that is vision aid, reading aid, sun protection and safety assisters. This kit includes:
- Hand held magnifier
- Wide brim hat
- Sunscreen oil
- Detachable sleeves
- School uniform
- Moon Shinning Bright book
- School bag
